3-Step Bioflora Organic fertilizer and soil amendment program.
We would like to introduce you to our 3-Step Bioflora Organic fertilizer and soil amendment program. July/August is the perfect time for your second fertilization in your landscape borders and trees, and it's not too late to start the program. September/October is time to begin lawn aeration, as well (important after a dry winter) and then spread your 3rd application of Bioflora Crumbles. This winterizes your lawn, promotes sustaining root growth and hedging against winter disease. Please give us a call today to schedule an appointment and get your estimate. Ask for Peggy "The Plant Lady," Burrows.
Get your hands dirty and plant something. That's right, putting trees, flowers or shrubs in the ground doesn't just provide you with beauty and shade, it can also improve your property value, lower your energy costs, clean the air and water—even lower your heart rate.
HEALTH.VALUE. BEAUTY. EFFICIENCY.
No wonder plants have been around so long. Put some green in the ground where you live, and experience the new life it brings to everything and everyone around it.
Growth Investments- By adding quality, low-maintenance landscaping to your home, you can boost its resale value by 15%.
Shady Deal- Carefully positioned plants and trees can cut as much as 25% off your household's energy consumption for cooling and heating.
Local Color- One of the most important factors in neighborhood satisfaction is the abundance of trees and well-landscaped grounds.
Greener is Cleaner- One tree can remove 26 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere annually, equaling 11,000 miles of car emissions.
We take a lot for granted when it comes to plants. It's time to wake up and smell them.
We are passionate about enhancing the environment for everyone. We believe in more green space and increasing the tree canopy. After all, we are the original "green" industry. We grow things. Things that make a person happy to be outside.Things that kids climb, generation after generation.Things that improve our air, our soils, and our streams.
Join us, won't you? Plant something.
The Perks- It's amazing what a few well-placed plants and trees can do for your home, your health and your neighborhood.
PLANTS ARE GREEN. MONEY'S GREEN.
Adding a beautiful landscape to a home can increase its value by up to 15% and can accelerate its sale by five to six weeks. -American Nursery and Landscape Association
A great way to put more green in your pocket is to start putting more of it in the ground. A beautiful landscape increases the value of any home or property. And it sure beats painting. Ever compare the price of houses on a tree-lined street versus comparable places on a barren boulevard? The difference will make anyone an instant plant lover.
CHILL OUT. PLANTS ARE COOL.
Just three properly placed trees can save an average household between $100 and $250 in annual heating and cooling costs. -U.S. Department of Energy
Planting greenery and enjoying its beauty have been proven to lower your blood pressure and heart rate. What's more, they can substantially lower your home's temperature and energy bill. By carefully positioning trees and shrubs to shelter your house from the sun and wind, you can reduce your heating and cooling energy consumption by as much as 25%, which should lower your blood pressure even more.
BREAKING DOWN FENCES.
The better the landscaping in common areas of a neighborhood, the more those spaces are used by residents, hence the more opportunities there are for social interaction between neighbors. -University of Illinois
Public spaces are like backyards we all own together. So why not make them better places for all of us to play? Shady, green spaces are like magnets. We've all seen the story of the rundown urban neighborhood that plants a community garden on an old vacant lot. The place comes alive. People suddenly come out of the woodwork and the neighborhood is socially transformed. Such is the power of plants to attract people—both to public spaces and to each other.
CLEANS, FRESHENS & DEODORIZES.
One tree can remove up to 26 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere annually. That's equal to 11,000 miles of car emissions. -Virginia Cooperative Extension
When you plant a penstemon or white oak, you get plenty more than just pretty flowers and leaves. While standing there looking gorgeous, flowers, trees and grasses are also busy doing janitorial service on the environment. In urban and suburban settings, vegetation helps reduce storm water runoff, decreases pollutants and suspended solids in surface water runoff, and reduces sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, carbon monoxide and particulate matter from the air.
ADMIT IT, YOU'RE FEELING BETTER ALREADY.

Meyer Garden Club
Please check back back in April for a listing of Garden Club events, seminars and gatherings you can attend at the Moline Garden Center.
Taylor Ridge Garden Club
Taylor Ridge Garden Club will be held on the second Saturday of each month (no club meeting Mother's Day weekend).
Our first meeting is April 12, at 10 am at the Taylor Ridge Garden Center location. Our topic will be House Plants and how to refresh them for spring. If you have any plants you would like some help with, bring them along!
A few of the topics we hope to cover this year include fairy gardens, invasive species: how to identify them and how to get rid of them, and ferns. We will have feature speakers as well.
New Organic Sustainable Products
Introducing BioFlora® soil amendment products - new biotechnology science that extracts natural Humates from "Mother Earth," which are intrinsically a natural part of the environment; Humates (decomposed plant and animal tissues) occur in all soils, waters and sediments. Simply put, Humates arise from the decomposition of plant and animal tissues that have been compressed over millions of years. BioFlora® has developed a proprietary process for extracting the maximum amount of humic and fulvic acids derived from Humates. Humic and fulvic acids have been proven to benefit flowers, shrubs, trees, turf, gardens, and even commercial crops because the humic and fulvic acids essentially aid soil ecology (interactions among soil organisms), friability (friable soil is soil that has the crumbly texture ideal for the underground activity that is the foundation of success with most plants), and fertility. Fertile soil has the following properties:
- It is rich in nutrients necessary for basic plant nutrition, including nitrogen.
- It contains sufficient minerals (trace elements) for plant nutrition, including boron, chlorine, cobalt, copper, iron, manganese, magnesium, molybdenum, sulfur, and zinc.
- It contains soil organic matter that improves soil structure and soil moisture retention.
- Gives you Soil pH in the range 6.0 to 6.8 for most plants but some prefer acid or alkaline conditions.
- Good soil structure, creating well drained soil, but some soils are wetter (as for producing rice) or drier (as for producing plants susceptible to fungi or rot) such as agave.
- A range of microorganisms that support plant growth.
- It often contains large amounts of topsoil. When your soil ecology, soil friability, and soil fertility is right the need for man-made fertilizers and chemicals can be greatly reduced and/or ultimately, eliminated; it just depends on the situation.
At Meyer Landscape & Design we are trying to do our part in bringing you superior natural organic products that support the green initiative that is sweeping the nation. After all, if we can offer you a product that gives you the same results and even more sustainable results with new biotechnology; and, do our part to help the environment, it's a win/win situation. Because of the natural processes that are triggered, as a result of managing the soils ecology rather than trying to synthetically or artificially stimulate "Mother Natures " processes, we end up with healthier crops, a healthier environment, and less toxicity in our natural surroundings.
Benefits from using BioFlora® include:
- Creating a less toxic environment for our children and pets, as well as for wild animals and birds.
- Increasing the rate and percentage of seed germination for turf, plants, and crops.
- Amplifying root system development, which can help to lessen a plants stress from environmental conditions.
- Aiding in bud and flower formation.
- Enhancing disease resistance and suppression.
